Custom Web Development for Cape Town Businesses

Web development is the planning, design, coding and launch of websites and web applications. For our clients in Cape Town, that means a site or app built around your business, not a template, owned entirely by you and set up to be found on Google.

We're a small, founder-led studio in Cape Town. We work with businesses across the City Bowl, Woodstock, Century City, Claremont, the Northern and Southern Suburbs, Stellenbosch and the wider Western Cape, and with clients elsewhere in South Africa and overseas. You deal directly with the people building your project, not an account manager.

Our core stack is React, Next.js and TypeScript on the front end, with Node.js and PostgreSQL or MongoDB behind it. When your team needs to edit content themselves, we use WordPress, Sanity or Strapi. We pick the stack for your goals: a five-page business website doesn't need the same architecture as a SaaS platform, and we'll tell you when the simpler option is the right one.

WordPress or Custom Code?

Option 01

Choose WordPress

If you mainly need a content-driven business website or WooCommerce store that non-technical staff can update daily. It's quick to launch, affordable, and has a large pool of support in South Africa.

Option 02

Choose a custom React or Next.js build

If speed, unique functionality or scale matter more: web apps, customer portals, dashboards, marketplaces, or a marketing site that needs to be very fast and feel distinctive. You can still have a CMS for editing content.

Not sure? Tell us what the site needs to do and we'll recommend one in our first call. See how both approaches turned out across our portfolio.

Web Development Cape Town FAQs

How much does a website cost in Cape Town?

With Urban Catalyst, a landing page starts at R5,200, a small business website at R23,300, a multi-page website with a CMS at R45,300 and an e-commerce store at R38,900. Custom web applications start at R155,400. Use our quote builder for an instant estimate.

How long does it take to build a website?

A landing page takes 1–2 weeks and a multi-page business website 3–6 weeks. E-commerce stores usually take 4–8 weeks, and a full web application 2–4 months, depending on complexity. You get a clear timeline during discovery.

Do you only work with businesses in Cape Town?

No. We're based in Cape Town, and many of our clients are in Cape Town and the Western Cape, but we also build websites for businesses elsewhere in South Africa and for international clients. Most projects run remotely, with in-person meetings in Cape Town when useful.

Should I choose WordPress or a custom-coded website?

Choose WordPress for content-heavy business sites and WooCommerce stores that your team updates often. Choose a custom React or Next.js build for web apps, portals, dashboards or sites where speed and unique functionality matter most. We build both and will recommend the right fit for your budget.

Will my new website rank on Google?

Every site we build is technically optimised for search: fast load times, clean code, metadata, sitemaps and structured data. Ranking also depends on your content, reviews, Google Business Profile and competition, so we'll advise on those too. For local businesses, service pages that clearly mention your area make a big difference.

Can you add online payments like PayFast to my website?

Yes. We integrate South African payment gateways including PayFast and Peach Payments, as well as international options like Stripe, for e-commerce stores, bookings, subscriptions and invoices.

Is my website POPIA compliant?

We build POPIA-aware websites: consent on contact forms, a privacy policy page, secure storage of personal information and only collecting the data you need. We're developers, not lawyers, so for full compliance we recommend a legal review of your policies.

Can you redesign or fix my existing website?

Yes. We redesign and rebuild slow or outdated websites, and take over sites built by other developers. When rebuilding, we keep your content and set up redirects so you don't lose the Google rankings you already have.

I built my app with an AI app builder. Can you take it over?

Yes. We regularly take over apps started in tools like Lovable, Base44 and Bolt, audit what's there, and turn them into secure, production-ready software. See our Lovable alternative and Base44 alternative pages.

Do you offer hosting and website maintenance?

Yes. We set up hosting and deployment, and offer monthly retainers that cover updates, security patches, backups, content changes and new features.

Do I own my website and its code?

Yes. Once the project is paid for, you own the code, design, content and domain. We set up hosting and accounts in your name, so you're never locked in to us.
